The Building Regulations Principal Designer (BRPD) role has been established in response to changes in the services that Building Control representatives can provide to clients. Now that advice cannot be given to clients and customers by a Building Control Officer, the use of BRPD becomes more of a necessity to ensure that compliancy is met.
Under the Building Safety Act 2022, domestic projects now require a Principal Designer to be appointed. The Principal Designer is responsible for planning, managing and monitoring the design stage to ensure compliance with Building Regulations. This role is normally undertaken by an architect or suitably qualified designer, even where works are carried out by the homeowner with friends/family.
